Team meetings are a quick and easy way for people in a channel to go from a conversation to an impromptu meeting.

Anyone from the team can join. Team meetings include audio, video, and screen sharing. You always have a meeting space, and you’ll never need a room or a projector.

Microsoft Teams is cloud-based team collaboration software that is part of the Office 365 suite of applications. The core capabilities in Microsoft Teams include business messaging, calling, video meetings and file sharing. Businesses of all sizes can use Teams.

As a business communications app, Teams enables local and remote workers to collaborate on content in real time and near-real time across different devices, including laptops and mobile devices.

First and foremost, Microsoft Teams provides a modern conversation experience for today’s teams. Microsoft Teams supports not only persistent but also threaded chats to keep everyone engaged. Team conversations are, by default, visible to the entire team, but there is, of course, the ability for private discussions.

Second, Microsoft Teams brings together the full breadth and depth of Office 365 to provide a true hub for teamwork. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote, Planner, Power BI and Delve are all built into Microsoft Teams, so people have all the information and tools they need at their fingertips. Backed by the Microsoft Graph, intelligent services are surfaced throughout the workspace to help with information relevancy, discovery and sharing. Microsoft Teams is also built on Office 365 Groups—our cross-application membership service that makes it easy for people to move naturally from one collaboration tool to another, preserve their sense of context and share with others.

Third, since all teams are unique, we’ve invested deeply in ways for people to customize their workspace, with rich extensibility and open APIs available at general availability.

Finally, Microsoft Teams provides the advanced security and compliance capabilities that our Office 365 customers expect. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Like all our commercial services, we have a transparent operational model with no standing access to customer data.

Microsoft Teams is a messaging app for teams where everyone, all in one place, can access all conversations, meetings, files, and notes. It’s a place for collaboration and work to happen in the open. Microsoft Team’s interface is reminiscent of social media chat clients, like Facebook or Google Hangouts.

Teams are more tolerant of networks that struggle to provide adequate bandwidth and latency. As long as there is 1.2Mbps available, you have a high-quality audio/video/screen sharing session in Teams.

A team owner in Microsoft Teams can add and manage guests in their teams via the web or desktop. Anyone with a business or consumer email accounts, such as Outlook, Gmail, or others, can participate as a guest in Teams, with full access to team chats, meetings, and files. Only people outside of your organization, such as partners or consultants, can be added as guests. People from within your organization can join as regular team members.

In that case, you can invite someone outside your organization to become a guest access user in Microsoft Teams. That way, they can access your team’s resources, share files, and join a group chat with other team members.

No, you don’t get unlimited calling, what you have is 3000 mins per user/month, but it is pooled within an organization

The desktop app gives you full functionality in Teams – like calling and meeting and desktop sharing. The browser version today doesn’t support calling and meetings. … Performance is better in the desktop app due to data caching. So if you have the choice, the desktop app is the way to go.

Direct any browser to “teams.microsoft.com” and sign in to your Microsoft account. You can create an account for free if you don’t already have one. Once you’re signed in to your Microsoft account, select “Get The Windows App” to download and install the app on your Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, or Linux device.

Install Teams on my Windows PC

  1. Go to the Office 365 sign-in page.
  2. Click the menu icon and select Team.
  3. Click Get the Windows app.
  4. When prompted with the pop-up window, click Save File.
  5. Now that you’ve downloaded Teams log in with your Office 365 email credentials to get started!

With secure private channels, you will be able to customize which members of the team can see conversations and files associated with a channel. You can restrict channel participation and exposure when needed without having to create separate teams to limit visibility. This is one of our top requested features, and we’re excited to be actively testing this internally and with select customers.

To assure the best experience for end-users, Teams provides IT organizations with a variety of governance controls. If you require strict controls on how teams are named and classified or whether guests can be added as team members, you can configure each of these areas in Azure Active Directory (Azure AD).

Yes – you can connect your existing SharePoint team sites and content to your teams in Microsoft Teams! And when we say sites and content, it’s the full power of SharePoint — the same powerful content management experience of working with sites and the content within the context of Teams. Soon, you will be able to create a Team for your Office 365 group-connected SharePoint team site. With one click on the new “Create a Team” button (will appear on the bottom-left corner of your site), you can “Teamify” your SharePoint site.

Today, you can do the following:

  • Add SharePoint document libraries as tabs in Teams.
  • Add SharePoint lists and pages as tabs in Teams.
  • Use the SharePoint News connector to have team news flow directly from SharePoint and into the Teams Conversation tab.
  • Add full sites (team sites and communication sites) as tabs in Teams via the Website tab.

Microsoft 365 Business Voice makes it easy for small and medium organizations to turn Microsoft Teams into a powerful and flexible telephone system. It’s a replacement for traditional telephony providers and in-house phone systems that can be difficult and costly to manage.

Business Voice is right for you if your organization has 300 or fewer people. Microsoft Teams and Business Voice only work when your users’ mailboxes are located in Microsoft 365. They don’t support mailboxes located on on-premises Exchange Server.

When you buy Business Voice, you get the following features and more:

  1. Phone SystemStandard phone features include Voice Mail, Caller ID, call menus, shared phone lines, and emergency calls.
  2. Domestic Calling- Calls within your country or region are free. International plans and toll-free dialing are also available.
  3. Audio ConferencingLets you host conference calls with people who don’t have Teams or don’t have an Internet connection.

Anyone who has the dial-in number and conference ID can join a Skype for Business or Microsoft Teams meeting unless the meeting organizer has locked the meeting.

Whether you’re calling in using a phone or the Skype for Business or Microsoft Teams apps, you’ll be able to hear everyone else on the call, and they can hear you. The meeting organizer can “mute” meeting attendees if they don’t want to hear them.

For the full Microsoft Teams experience, every user should be enabled for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Office 365 Group creation. Today, Teams is not available for on-prem only environments. If you are in a hybrid environment, you will be able to use Teams. However, you will have limited capabilities.

Hybrid environment capabilities:

  • If users aren’t assigned and enabled with SharePoint Online licenses, they will not have OneDrive for Business storage in Office 365. File sharing will continue to work in Channels, but users cannot share files in Chats without OneDrive for Business storage in Office 365.
  • Users hosted on either Exchange Online Dedicated – Legacy or Exchange on-premises must be synchronized to Azure Active Directory for Office 365. They can create and join teams and channels, add and configure tabs and bots, and chat and call. Users hosted on Exchange Online or Exchange Dedicated vNext can use all the features of Teams.

It is a set of cybersecurity services that aim to assess, reevaluate, and rebuild an organization’s security posture through Microsoft’s technologies and methodologies, making them qualified for CMMC certification.

It is a framework used to assess an organization’s cybersecurity posture abiding by various global security standards.
