1. New Business Intelligence Functionality

The new real-time dashboards in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 deliver advanced business intelligence functionality that is simple to use.Users can quickly configure multiple dashboards to monitor business performance, for example. The dashboards can be set up for individual or shared use, and can include inline charts with drill-down intelligence to visually navigate data, identify trends and uncover new insights.

2. Tight Integration with Microsoft Office

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 introduces a new Office 2010 contextual ribbon for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and Microsoft Dynamics CRM browser clients. The ribbon delivers a consistent, familiar navigation and user experience. The new release enables CRM information to take full advantage of native Outlook functionality, including previews and conditional formatting. Users can highlight and flag CRM records, just like they can with an Outlook email. The reading pane gives users an instant view of a record without having to open a new screen.

3. Advanced User Personalization

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 lets users configure their workplaces to meet their specific roles and information needs. Personalizing a workspace allows users to set the default pane and tab that display when they open Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online.Users also have control over what links appear in the workplace view, how many records appear in lists, how numbers and dates display, and the language they want to use. Finally, users can combine these personalized features with the new dashboard feature to create a personalized dashboard for their default view.

4. Integration with SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics NAV

The beta demonstrates Microsoft’s desire to provide out-of-the-box integration with two key Microsoft products: SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics NAV.Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 integrates with SharePoint Server’s document management through contextual document repositories.CRM 2011 will also integrate with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2, due for release in the next few months. Together, the two products will boost productivity by enhancing interaction between front and back office applications.

5. Role-based Forms and Views

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 displays forms and views based on user roles. This role-tailored design ensures that users have fast access to the relevant information they need. Role-based forms and views also prevent users from seeing data that they are not authorized to view.

6. Better Configuration Capabilities

Microsoft has incorporated numerous small but significant features into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 that make it easier for businesses to configure solutions, either for themselves or third-parties.Key features are: custom activities and communications; field-level security; data auditing; tailored form experience; and an improved knowledge base.

7. Customizing and Sharing

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 introduces what the vendor calls ‘solutions,’ which are ways to save customizations and share them with others. Users can create a solution or import a solution created by a developer outside the organization.A managed solution can only be edited by a specific user. An unmanaged one can be edited by any user with an appropriate role. A solution can have version numbering, relationships with entities and other components, and security features based on user roles.

8. Interactive Process Dialogs

Dialogs help companies to collect and process information using step-by-step scripts. At the most basic level, companies can use dialogs to guide customer interactions and internal processes. At another level, dialogs can be used to increase performance and versatility by incorporating workflow logic. This logic invokes automated tasks using the responses a customer or user makes during a dialog script.

9. Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace

Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace is an online solutions catalog that helps developers accelerate and extend their Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online implementations. The marketplace is fully integrated with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.Customers will be able to access Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace from within Microsoft Dynamics CRM to search and download applications and connect with Microsoft partners. For more information, visit http://crm.dynamics.com/DynamicsMarketplace/landing.aspx.

10. Cloud Development and Deployment

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 allows developers to take advantage of Windows Azure to develop and deploy custom code for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online using tools such as Visual Studio. Developers can use Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 to incorporate Microsoft Silverlight, Windows Communication Foundation, and .NET Language Integrated Query (LINQ) into their cloud solutions.

Google’s chief economist Hal Varian commented in January that the next sexy job in the next 10 years would be statisticians
What is it all about?
The web is full of “data-driven apps.” Almost any e-commerce application is a data-driven application. There’s a database behind a web front end, and middle ware that talks to a number of other databases and data services (credit card processing companies, banks, and so on). But merely using data isn’t really what we mean by “data science.” A data application acquires its value from the data itself, and creates more data as a result. It’s not just an application with data; it’s a data product. Data science enables the creation of data products.

The 3 key skills required are the following

1) Statistics – traditional analysis you’re used to thinking about
2)Data Munging – parsing, scraping, and formatting data
3)Visualization – graphs, tools, etc.

If you use Windows IIS, you’ve spent hours trying to figure out why your uploaded file won’t inherit the permissions needed to display correctly. Luckily, the answer is extremely easy and something most people would have never thought of. The problem only happens when you use PHP to upload a file. When you upload a file, PHP sends the file to a temporary directory on the hard drive (for me it is C:\Windows\Temp) and then copies it over to it’s intended directory.

Once the file has landed in the temporary directory, it is assigned the permissions of that directory. The problem is when Windows copies that file, it keeps the temporary directory’s permissions and doesn’t inherit your web directory’s permissions. The easiest way to fix this problem is to add to the temporary directory your intended web directory’s permissions. In other words, don’t erase the permissions already in the temporary directory, just add the web directory’s permissions to them. If you want to change your temporary upload directory, find the “upload_tmp_dir” in your php.ini file and set it to the directory of your choosing (outside your web folders of course), and then add the proper permissions. And just so you know, if the two folders were on separate drives, you wouldn’t have this problem

By default, when you install an instance of SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services, the instance setup process creates two new databases that are named “ReportServer_Instance_Name” and “ReportServer_Instance_nameTempDB.” These databases are created under the following folder for the instance of the SQL Server that you are running:

For the default MSSQLSERVER instance, the database names are “ReportServer” and “ReportServerTempDB.”

These databases may contain user data. Therefore, the Setup program does not delete these databases when you uninstall a SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services instance. When you install an instance that has the same instance name, the Setup program detects that the Report Server databases already exist for that instance name.

Following has been compiled by Ms.Vidushi Wahal a 4th year B.Tech (IT).

Network Management system is an essential part of many systems. These are
collectively known as Operations, Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning.
Three categories or classes of management information have been defined:
1. Configuration Management.
2. Performance Management.
3. Fault Management.
Interfaces have been defined for each category between information gathering
agent (Element Manger) and information collecting agent (Network Manager).
These interfaces are called Integration Reference Points (IRP).

Architecture
Element Managers or Agents are deployed with the Network Elements or are
embedded with the Network Elements. Network Manager requests the
information about the Network Elements from their respective Agents and these
Agents interact with Network Elements and respond to Network Manager’s
requests with requested information. Agents also monitor different parameters
of Network Element and generate the Messages known as TRAPS or INFORMS for
the Network Manager in case of some error, warning or to notify some event.

Network Manager
Network Manager is responsible for the management of Network Elements by
interacting with their respective Element Managers or Agents. Network Manager
can manage multiple Agents in the network through SNMP protocol. The
information or parameters of a Network Element that will be managed are
defined in the form of Management Information Base (MIB) Variables using
Abstract Syntax Notation (ASN).

Network Manager Components
The main components of Network Manager are:
1. SNMP Manager
2. MIB Module
3. Database Module
4. Data Model / Presentation Interface
5. IRP Management
6. Trap Service
The following diagram shows the logical placement of above mentioned
components in the
Network Manager:

SNMP Manager
SNMP Manager handles all the SNMP protocol specific operations, and directly
communicates with the Agents hiding the SNMP protocol level details from the
upper layers. All the management requests made by Network Manager to the
Agents are translated into SNMP Protocol Data Units (PDUs) at this layer are the
responses from the Agents are translated to simple and understandable
management information for the upper layers.
MIB Module
MIB Module holds the MIB related data for the Network Manager. It loads the
management information from the MIB files and arranges them in high
performance data structures for fast retrieval.

Database Module
The Database Module provides the functionality for database interaction.
Network Manager stores the management information in the database using the
interfaces provided by Database Module.
Data Model / Presentation Interface
The Data Model / Presentation Interface is the layer that implements the
Network Manager application logic. It holds the caches of the variable values
fetched from the Agents and format the management information for
presentation layer. This layer also implements the logic to communicate with the
Agents.

IRP Management
IRP Management is a logical layer that logically separates the management
information in
Network Manager. There are three IRPs :
* Configuration Management
* Performance Management
* Fault Management
Trap Service
Trap Service is the component of Network Manager that listens for the TRAP or
INFORM messages from the Agents. It is responsible for handling these messages
and generating the response messages if necessary.

More to come in Part 2…

These goals are generic to all industries and all types of projects. Regardless of your level of experience
in project management, set these 5 goals for every project you manage.

Goal 1: To finish on time

This is the oldest but trickiest goal in the book. It’s the most difficult because the
requirements often change during the project and the schedule was probably
optimistic in the first place. To succeed, you need to manage your scope very carefully.

Implement a change control process so that any changes to the scope are properly managed.
Always keep your plan up to date, recording actual vs. planned progress. Identify any deviations from plan
and fix them quickly.

Goal 2: To finish under budget

To make sure that your project costs don’t spiral, you need to set a project budget at
the start to compare against. Include in this budget, all of the types of
project costs that will accrue, whether they are to do with people, equipment,
suppliers or materials. Then work out how much each task in your plan is going
to cost to complete and track any deviations from this plan.Make sure that if you over-spend on some tasks,
that you under-spend on others. In this way, you can control your spend and deliver under budget.

Goal 3: To meet the requirements

The goal here is to meet the requirements that were set for the project at the start.
Whether the requirements were to install a new IT system, build a bridge or
implement new processes, your project needs to produce solutions which meet
these requirements 100%. The trick here is to make sure that you have a detailed enough set of requirements
at the beginning. If they are ambiguous in any way, then what was initially seen as a small piece of work could
become huge, taking up valuable time and resources to complete.

Goal 4: To keep customers happy

You could finish your project on time, under budget and have met 100% of the requirements-but still have
unhappy customers. This is usually because theirexpectations have changed since the project started and
have not been properly managed. To ensure that your project sponsor, customer and other stakeholders are
happy at the end of your project, you need to manage their expectations carefully. Make sure you always keep
them properly informed of progress. “Keep it real” by giving them a crystal clear view of progress to date.
Let them voice their concerns or ideas regularly. Tell them upfront when you can’t deliver on time, or when
a change needs to be made. Openness and honesty are always the best tools for setting customer expectations.

Goal 5: To ensure a happy team

If you can do all of this with a happy team, then you’ll be more than willing to do it all again for the next project.
And that’s how your staff will feel also. Staff satisfaction is critical to your project’s success. So keep your team
happy by rewarding and recognizing them for their successes. Assign them work that complements their strengths
and conduct team building exercises to boost morale. With a happy motivated team, you can achieve anything!

And there you have it. The 5 goals you need to set yourself for every project.

Big news is that Google will buy gadget-maker Motorola for $12.5 billion. The thing that’s most shocking about the deal is Motorola’s massive headcount. It has 19,000 people!
That’s 60% of Google’s current total. How on earth will Google integrate that many people?

Here are some tidbits about the Google-DoubleClick integration (and questions about the Google-Motorola integration those tidbits raise):

Google CEO Eric Schmidt gave the people in charge of DoubleClick integration a clear mandate: get rid of 40% of the company. Will Motorola see similar cuts?

Google got to 60% with three types of cuts. It fired ~13%, spun out ~13% when it sold DoubleClick’s search engine marketing group Peformics, and put another ~13% on contract. Are there any businesses Google can spin out of Motorola?

Deciding whom to fire, Google looked at DoubleClick employees and asked, “Do they measure up to Google’s standards?” Execs found that DoubleClick’s product people generally did. Most of them stayed. Many software engineers did not measure up. They went. Which groups at Motorola are the strongest, in terms of talent?

It was very important to Google that DoubleClick employees conform to the Google culture. DoubleClick employees happily complied. The Google culture is great; there’s lots of free food – about $20/employee/day. Will Google really spend all that money on Motorola employees?

Google engineering has a strong bias against non-Google technologies, which can cause business distruption (e.g. if your product is based on the Microsoft stack you need to rewrite it). Which projects at Motorola will get the reset?
